The Location
Streeterville is a Chicago neighborhood with a colorful history. When the city was founded, the waters of Lake Michigan filled the area north of the Chicago River and east of Pine Street (now Michigan Avenue). The accumulation of sand and silt eventually created an area known as "the Sands." It was here where George Wellington Streeter stranded his boat in 1886 and brashly claimed the land for himself. His claim was eventually invalidated, but his name was inextricably linked to the land.
The boundaries of Streeterville are Lake Michigan to the east, the Chicago River to the south, Michigan Avenue to the west and Oak Street Beach to the north. This area is ideal for people who want to be near the excitement of downtown Chicago, but also want to live slightly apart in a quiet neighborhood setting.
Streeterville affords every possible amenity. Grocery stores such as Treasure Island, Dominick's and Fox & Obel are within walking distance, as are a Walgreens, Ace Hardware, Uncork It wine and spirits, AMC River East movie theater and an Ontario Street branch of the U.S. Post Office. Other conveniences include several nearby banks, multiple Starbucks locations, and several health clubs.
Some of the finest shopping in the world is nearby along Michigan Avenue and various side streets, including boutique-laden Oak Street. There are also a myriad of world class restaurants in the area, including Les Nomades, Capital Grille, Tru, Nomi, Spiaggia, Gibson's, Carmine's and Bistro 110. Nightlife abounds with various bars and clubs.
There are great cultural and recreational opportunities as well, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Navy Pier, Olive Park, Oak Street and Ohio Street Beaches and the Lake. The lakefront bike path is also easily accessible.
CTA bus service is excellent in the area, as is access to Lake Shore Drive.
