3800 N. Lake Shore Drive, completed in 1927, was designed by architect B. Leo Steif and built by Avery Brundage. The shape of the building site allowed the semi-circular design of this Tudor Gothic structure. The massive, two-story limestone base contrasts beautifully with the red brick that clads the upper floors. Contemporary admirers felt it reminiscent of an English castle along the lakefront.
